We Get By in 2015 | Showcasing emerging artists

We Get By

In 2013 the concept for We Get By was developed, it was to be an art exhibition to encourage and showcase emerging artists aged 40 years and younger. The desire was of course to offer support to younger and emerging artists who still had time to build their careers in the visual arts and to contribute to the Australian art movement.

At the same time it was to announce to Australia, that Newcastle did have a platform to encourage art and artists. Firstly, to nurture local and regional artists but to also induce artists nationally to participate. It is my belief this influx of artists from other regions strengthens our own platform in the Hunter Region!

Furthermore, it provides more reason for local artists to compete, thereby ensuring their efforts for work are well executed, and are valued from a national perspective.

The 2013 exhibition was to establish and build the art competition for future growth and show sincere recognition of the artist’s art as a result of exhibition in an established professional art gallery. This we realised would be the first time for many exhibitors to have displayed their art in a commercial gallery! So the lessons for many would be numerous.

With the success of last year’s exhibition being measurable, with over 600 people at the opening launch, steady art sales during the 3 week exhibition period, new artists, buyers and followers to the art market. Over 100,000 social media followers who became aware of the exhibition, event, art and interacted with out content.

2015 brings about exciting new targets and further investment to promote the exhibition with the sponsorship of Varley Group, a local company with a distinguished history in business in the region. Their support with prize money and sponsorship to promote the event means our reach to attract artists nationally is achievable.

The following cash and prizes are on offer for emerging artists in the 2015 We Get By:

Where are we at with the 2015 We Get By?:

We have already achieved record submissions nationally from emerging artists, are expecting massive numbers at the opening evening party, are on track to achieve national exposure for the artists and their art to over 500,000 people and the competition will contribute to developing art in the Regional centre of Newcastle through ensuring a ‘must see event’. Many realise the lifestyle aspect combined with the education focus within our region, however with this exhibition we hope to further enhance the vitality of the arts in the area and to spread that message nationally!

Please tell your friends about this exciting event, share this blog post, and if you haven’t already RSVP for the opening evening party here.

2015 ‘We Get By’ promises to be a highly visual, entertaining and engaging event.

Yours in art,

Mark Widdup
CHG Director
